5-Cyano-2-fluoropyridine (CAS number 3939-12-6) is a pyridine derivative with a fluorine and a nitrile at 2- and 5-positions. An anti-cancer Ube2T inhibitor is synthesised from 5-cyano-2-fluoropyridine through a two-step reaction process. The synthesis begins with the reaction of 5-cyano-2-fluoropyridine and pyrrolidine via nucleophilic aromatic substitution, followed by Pinner reaction to yield the amidine moiety.

5-Cyano-2-fluoropyridine is also employed in the synthesis of pyridine substituted dikeopyrrolopyrroles (DPPs) using diisopropyl succinate. The resulting pyridine-DPPs have bathochromically shifted absorption and emission bands.
